Who we are *

Established May of 1999, Palmetto Pedorthic Care has been serving the state of South Carolina with proper prescription footwear for stress/overuse injuries as well as diabetic foot problems.

What We Do

Palmetto Pedorthic Care is a Board Certified pedorthic facility.  Our objective is to provide proper pedorthic footwear to relieve all types of painful conditions related to and from the foot.

Patients are referred to us by their physicians to help conditions such as diabetic foot problems, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, IT band syndrome as well as many other painful abnormalities.

Our Mission:

To provide services that bring glory and honor to God.

For our company to be recognized as the best at what we do, not necessarily the largest.

To portray professionalism in all aspects of each job from beginning to end.

To provide all aspects of pedorthic services to our customers at affordable rates

To do the little extras that take us above and beyond the average pedorthic facility.

To give our customers a personal relationship so that they realize how important they are to us.

Our Services

Our services include custom foot orthotics, diabetic inserts and off the shelf diabetic and comfort shoes.

Custom Foot Orthotics

Our pedorthic organization ethics strongly recommends that you have your foot orthotics fabricated by prescription only.  A proper foot orthosis is the foundation to help relieve foot pain.  Many modifications can be made to help the orthosis target the specific condition being treated.

Sports Medicine

We provide custom foot orthotics for many different athletic programs in and around South Carolina. We are mainly called in for sports related injures such as plantar fasciitis, shin splints, turf toe and knee problems among many others.  We also work with many high school athletic programs as well.

 Diabetic Footwear

We also specialize in proper diabetic footwear.  Proper footwear is essential to decrease high pressure areas of the diabetic foot.  When the weight is distributed evenly, high pressure areas are avoided which decreases the chance of skin irritation.

MEDICARE REQUIREMENTS FOR DIABETIC FOOTWEAR

Per Medicare, we are required to have the following on file before we are allowed to dispense any diabetic footwear:

Prescribing Physician (This can be a podiatrist, MD, DO or PA)

A hard copy prescription from the ordering physician

Medicare standard written order (SWO) signed by the ordering physician

Office notes pertaining to the diabetic diagnosis from the ordering physician

Certifying Physician (Diabetic doctor)

A recent diabetic foot exam must be made at the physician’s office at least six months prior to delivery of any items to the patient.

Signed shoe certification from the certifying physician (the MD who takes care of your diabetic needs) must indicate one or more qualifying conditions in order for Medicare to consider coverage. This form can only be signed by a MD or DO. A nurse practitioner or a physician assistant is not allowed to sign this form as of yet.

Office notes pertaining to the diabetic diagnosis from the certifying physician must reflect the qualifying conditions verbatim in order for Medicare to consider coverage.

Medicare qualifiers for diabetic footwear. The certifying physician is required to circle one or more of these items if the patient qualifies.

  1. Previous amputation of the foot or part of either foot, or

  2. History of previous foot ulceration of either foot, or

  3. History of pre-ulcerative calluses or either foot, or

  4. Peripheral neuropathy with evidence of callus formation of either foot, or

  5. Foot deformity of either foot, or

  6. Poor circulation in either foot, and is being treated under a comprehensive plan of care for his/her diabetes, and needs diabetic shoes.

All completed forms and physician’s office notes must be in the patient chart before we are allowed to dispense the footwear. We will not order shoes or fabricate custom inserts before we receive and verify all required items from the physician.

We may need to call on you to contact the doctor if we have not received the items in a timely manner.

Medicare does not preauthorize diabetic footwear, so we are unable to know if Medicare chooses to pay or deny. If denied, the patient is responsible for the charges.

Payments Accepted

Although we do accept and file most major insurance companies for the prescribed work, there may be deductibles that have to be met as well as co payments and non covered charges.

We are Medicare providers as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield providers.

We do not accept Medicaid or any HMO plans.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Checks and Cash. Credit card payments are subject to a 3.5% processing fee.
